Lucy…5

“I’m hungry,” said Walker.

“Do you have any money?”

“Sure,” he said, pulling a wad of bills out of his pocket, along with gold and silver coins, that looked amazingly old and valuable.  “If these things aren’t right, I can make whatever is needed,” he added, holding them out to her.

“Hmmm,” said Lucy, “maybe you’re more magical than I thought.  Put that stuff away.  My treat.”

“So we are going to get food?”

“Why not,” she groaned, pulling him by the arm.  “This cafe is nice, their food is good and it’s reasonably priced.”

“What are we going to eat?”

“I’m getting a salad, what would you like?”

“What do you think I would like?”  he asked, looking at the food on the tables around them.

“Do you like soup?”

Walker shrugged.  “Maybe.  I never had soup.”

“Okay,” said Lucy, taking charge.  “I’ll order for both of us.”

“Great.”

The waiter, a tall, handsome man, with dark hair and light brown eyes, smiled at Lucy and asked if they were ready to order.

She ordered two cups of vegetarian split pea soup, vegetarian chili, noodles and tofu, and a salad, with Ranch and French dressing on the side, as well as Death by Chocolate, cake with ice cream, for dessert. She said that ice water, with straws, would be fine.  Then she looked at Walker and said, “I ordered a couple of things, so that you could try a little of each.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” said Lucy, smiling at his excitement.  “How will you get back to wherever you came from?”

“I’m not going back.  I’m staying with you until you die.”

“See, that’s not going to work for me.  Unless I’m going to die in the next hour, or so, I thought you could leave right after lunch.”

“All the people in this cafe are with their GA’s.  Angels are chatting among themselves and standing next to, and behind, their own particular person.  The boy over there, the one in the blue shirt and black pants, is angry and getting ready to run outside, where he would get hit by a green car, if it wasn’t for the fact that his angel is going to trip him, and stop that line of action from taking place.  He’s not only doing it for the boy, he’s doing it for the driver of the car.  The driver just found out that her daughter was accepted into Grad school and she’s very happy.   Her angel doesn’t want to spoil that special moment, by having her hit the boy with her car.  The angels have worked it out so that the incident that would have taken place…doesn’t.”

“That’s amazingly complex but how could you possibly know which action is the right one?”

“It’s very complex and we don’t know which action is the right one?”

“I brought your soup first,” said the waiter, winking at Lucy, as he placed a small cup in front of each of them.  “Haven’t seen you for a few weeks,” he said, grinning.  “Nice to have you back.”

Lucy smiled and nodded.  “Thanks, it’s nice to be back.”

“You like him,” said Walker, watching her closely.

“I hardly know him,” said Lucy, staring at the waiter, as he walked away.  “Try the soup, it’s really good. You can put crackers in it, if you like.”

“He likes you too, but you can’t trust hm.  He has a girlfriend and he has another girl he sees as well.  His girlfriend doesn’t know about the other one. The other girl knows about his girlfriend, but she doesn’t care if she hurts her.  Having said that, his girlfriend is extremely attracted to a man who works at her office and she’s thinking of leaving the waiter.  The new man is nice and would treat her fairly.  The waiter would like to add you to his list, but I don’t think that would make you happy.”

“What?”

“Should I repeat what I just said?”

“No, I heard you, but how do you know that?”

“I’m a Guardian Angel.  I know lots of things.  A cute puppy is going to walk by in a minute, so you might want to look outside.”
