Plight of the Pumpkin…

a
pumpkin
grows
upon
the
ground
in
mud
with
vines
around
it
waiting
for
the
fateful
day
when
some
kid
shouts
I
found
it
then
home
it
goes
to
face
the
knife
and
have
its
insides
routed
its
seeds
get
baked
its
heart
just
breaks
knowing
there’s
nothing
it
can
do
about
it

The Raven’s Lament…poem

Picture from: Pinterest
I posted this poem in  October of 2013

the raven sat
upon
his
branch
his
beak
was
open
wide
I
wish
I’d
met
that
Mr.
Poe
I’d
have
his
crusty
hide
he
made
us
famous
yes
indeed
but
that
my
love
was
not
our
need
to
be
aligned
with
such
a
foe
the
ever
darkling
Mister
Poe

Mr. Poe…poem

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAdear
Mr.
Poe
we
want
you
to
know
while
we
think
you
are
creepy
and
don’t
read
you
when
sleepy
we
still
love
deeply
as
ravens
sit
meekly
listening
to
hearts
telling
tales
about
coffins
and
nails
as
we
celebrate
the
macabre
on
Halloween

Witches…

These kinds of pictures, were made to show intelligent, powerful women as ugly and frightening.  The reverse is true but labels and fear are always used by those in power to destroy and prevent others from living their lives freely and openly.  That’s what the status quo is all about.  In the beginning, men killed women and took their property.  Men always kill women just because they can.  It was an easy way of eliminating women they felt were threatening. It’s happening today.  It never ends.  If men want to burn us at the stake again, they will write a law that states that they can. When you’re in charge of the laws, you can do ANYTHING you like, that’s why women aren’t part of the process.   Witches live next door to you, they work at your bank, they teach your kids.  They are everywhere and they are beautiful.  That’s why they are portrayed as ugly.

Princesses are weak, not very bright, helpless and  beautiful.  They are promoted by society.  They set the standard of what a female should be.  They obey and marry people they never met.  They have no friends and are waiting to be rescued.

Witches are free and powerful, so they are portrayed as evil.  They don’t need to be rescued, they don’t need anything.  They are threatening to men, to the establishment, so they are portrayed as ugly…their punishment for refusing to be princesses, is to be killed and/or hated.

These are training stories for children.  It’s done on purpose.  Imagine Beauty and the Beast in gender reversal.  Right…no way at all.  All done on purpose.  Normally, the prince has both parents and is wealthy.  Princesses are unconscious, singing to birds, in comas, living with dwarfs, kept in towers and none of them have mothers, just hateful, neglectful, invisible fathers.  Stepmothers are evil because women are evil in the society in which we live.  Only those who follow the rules and OBEY men are considered good.  Think of one male in a fairy tale who is locked up, punished, forced to marry a stranger, poor, cleaning out fireplaces, friendless, running through the woods with someone chasing him to take his heart because he’s handsome.  Think about it.  It’s a set up.  Male=power, freedom.  Female=misery, isolation, fear, helplessness, powerlessness, motherless, mistreatment, cruel fathers, no choices, saved by men who kiss them awake. Men want to create life, but only women can do that, so they make princesses half dead, waiting to be given life by some strange guy passing by.

These stories are cultural lessons that show children EXACTLY how society works.  They are actually cautionary tales that should be used to show children the evils of the society that is waiting for them.

Mr. Poe and his Raven

I wrote this in April of 2014 but thought it was appropriate for Halloween:)

Rethinking Life

Mr. Poe and...

Collage

I made the collage and the poem just dropped onto the page.  It’s not at all what I had in mind but here it is, nonetheless.

Mr. Poe & his Raven

Mr.
Poe
was
quite
distressed
even
though
he
did
his
best
he
never
could
get
any
rest
the
bird
was
just
relentless

the
raven
cawed
both
day
and
night
gave
all
the
neighbors
quite
a
fright
but
didn’t
care
for
them
at
all
the
bird
enjoyed
relentless

Mrs.
Poe
spoke
very
slow
she
said
the
bird
would
have
to
go
but
Poe
stood
strong
and
said
oh
no
he
can”t
help
that
he’s
relentless

I
love
the
raven
he’s
my
friend
I’m
sticking
by
him
till
the
end
on
this
one
issue
I
won’t
bend
it’s
okay
that
he’s
relentless

now
leave
me
woman
I
must
write
before
the
dawn
bursts
forth
with
light
the
bird
won’t
let
me
sleep
tonight
because
he’s
so
relentless

the
raven
looked
at
Poe
and
said
what’s
going
on
inside
your
head
I’m
sitting
here
within
your
view
don’t
you
know
what
you
should
do
you
know
that
I’m
relentless

I’m
tired
raven
can’t
you
see
THIS
is
what
YOU
do
to
me
you
never
stop
you
always
caw
you
truly
are
relentless

Poe
got
up
reached
for
the
door
the
raven
dropped
down
to
the
floor
you
love
me
just
the
way
I
am
you
know
you
like
relentless

goodnight
my
friend
my
body’s
sore
I’m
sorry
that
I’m
such
a
bore
I’m
off
to
bed
to
get
some
sleep
please
don’t
be
relentless

the
raven
stopped
and
shook
his
head
yes
go
on
go
off
to
bed
but
sleep
won’t
come
for
you
dear
friend
because
my
name’s
Relentless

It’s Halloween! The time for all things scary! Vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts, skeletons, zombies, Frankenstein, Dracula, … are walking our towns and cities. Carved pumpkins will appear everywhere, kids knocking on doors calling “trick or treat”. Many of us will organise or take part in costume parties, … Tonight will see lots of scares and […]

Toledo Blue…35

“Whadda you doing here?” asked a kid with a gun stuck down the front of his pants.

“You could shoot off something you might want to keep, carrying a gun that way.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, but it’s your problem, not mine.  Tell Lucky that T want’s to see his smiling face.”

“Why would he want to see you?”

“You might want to give him the message, so he doesn’t have to keep me waiting.  He won’t like that and if he doesn’t like it, I guarantee that you won’t like it either.”

The kid was smart, he didn’t argue, he just went inside.  He was back in a minute, waving me in.

“T-Baby, what’s up?” said Lucky, coming in for a hug. Ten guys got up and left the room.

“You’re looking good for an old man,” she said, smiling at him.

“Hey, I’m twenty-two, still old enough for you though.  Anytime you’re ready.”

“I’ve got a proposition for you.”

“I have waited a long time to hear that,” he laughed.  “Sit down.”

“Here’s whats going on….”

Toledo gave him the short version and waited a minute until he closed his mouth.

“You’re joking.”

“I’m not.  I want you to get the gang leaders together and set up a meeting.  We’re going after the establishment and we are making room for those who have no voice and that, my sweet friend,  includes you.”

“It will never work.”

“We have to try.  Call me when the meeting is set up.  Everyone needs to be there and weapons left at the door, if you can swing it.  Meeting in neutral territory.  No one has the upper hand on their home turf.  We want equal footing for everyone, so get a round table.”

“Are we going to be the new Knights?” he laughed.

“I’m counting on it,” said Toledo, taking his hand.  “I’m serious about this Lucky.  I need your help.  You’re the first step.  We’re going to pour money into the city.  We need you to oversee the process.  We need all the leaders to do their jobs on their own turf.  They will be expected to consult with each other in weekly meetings, to make sure everyone is working toward the same end.  How’s your sister, by the way?”

“She’s got two kids.  Hard to believe.  You remember how wild she was.”

“I do indeed,” snickered Toledo.  “Tell her I said hello and that I’m going to hit her up for a few favors.”

“I’ll talk to my crew, see what I can do.”

“If I don’t hear from you by the end of the week, I’ll be at your door.”

Lucky nodded.  “I gotcha back, woman.  No worries.  Is that the only proposition ya got for me?”

“Oh, honey, I don’t want to ruin you for all the other women who will be in our life,” she said, running her hand down his arm.

“I’m willing to risk it.”

Toledo laughed, gave him another hug and pushed him away.

“I’m serious, T.  I’m willing to take the chance and hey, I heard about your new father.”

Toledo turned and looked at him thoughtfully.  “He’s not my father. He’s nothing to me, just a sperm having a good time.”

“I hear ya, T. Talk to you soon.”

She walked back to him and put her arms around him.  He bent down and kissed her.  She kissed him back.

“You know it’s always been you,” he whispered.

“You too,” she said.  walking away.

Timmy isn’t sure how long he can hang upside down…

Timmy has motion sickness and swinging back and forth, no matter how little, is making him long to stand on the floor.  Not only that, all the blood is rushing to his head.  Margie and Ruthie are happy to sit on the narrow pole.

It’s almost November but some of my flowers are still so pretty I just can’t empty the containers. Once they freeze, I probably won’t be able to get them out of their pots but I just can’t get rid of them.
