Captain Kirk vs. Sherlock Holmes, both of them…

I know you must think about things like this, right?  Who would you rather be?  The new Kirk (Chris Pine), PBS’s Sherlock (Bert Cumberbatch), or Elementary’s Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller)?  This is tough.  As much as I love Sherlock and Elementary’s Sherlock as well as their sidekicks/partners, I think I’d have to go with Kirk.  The reason…I like outer space more than dead bodies.  Having said that, there are plenty of dead bodies on Star Trek. Nevertheless, I think that’s who I’d choose.  Jonny Lee Miller is very cool and physical. He knows how to fight and win.  He’s brilliant, and not afraid to do what it takes to get the job done. He can be icy but he’ll do anything for those he cares about. Bert Cumberbatch is also brilliant but more wholesome and far less violent/physical.  Miller is really out there.  Chris Pine is always looking for a good time…which is a huge plus.  He’s smart, not brilliant, human and emotionally involved.  I’m sticking with Kirk.  Spock and Bones are good guys, the Watson’s are fabulous, as well.  They balance things out.  But outer space, parties and Warp Speed, well, that’s hard to beat.  If we added Wonder Woman to the mix, that would be another whole thought process and Chris Pine was in that film as well, but not as Kirk, naturally, although he’s always Kirk in some way, don’t you agree?

Anyway, I’m a Trekkie and while I love the Sherlock’s, they rarely, if ever, laugh, or get out of their heads.  Kirk does stupid things but you can’t help but like him.  The way he looks has a lot to do with that, same for the Sherlocks.  Lucy Lu is wonderful and Martin Freeman is fantastic but it’s PBS’s Mrs. Hudson who steals the show.  She is a true treasure and simply sublime.
