we are like leaves
pushed by the
wind
first one way
then the other
flying high
today
on the ground
tomorrow
never knowing
where life
will take us
but sensing
that neither the wind
nor life
has any intent
they are
guilty
of no
crimes
my body
once so lean
beautiful
strong and capable
moved without thinking
danced until dawn
did whatever I asked
no
demanded
without hesitation
or question
that body
has see more of life now
thinks a few seconds longer
before moving
dances with a bit more restraint
and doesn’t follow orders
or demands
as well as she once did
it seems as if our roles
are reversing
and now
I am expected
to listen
to what my body is saying
no
demanding
she thinks that fair is fair
after all
she did everything I asked
but I don’t see it that way
I’m not ready
to give up control
so she better get ready
for a very
bumpy
ride
