Nightlife sucks

This is another co-written story by bgbowers and me.  All odd numbered chapters can be seen on her blog.  Thank you.

The night was hot and steamy. The air felt heavy and smelled of garbage and sweaty humans.  I straightened my tight black dress, pushed my fingers through my short blond hair, and walked into The Coffin, liked I owned the place.  I snickered and waved at the cape check girl, and, since I actually DID own the place, went straight to the bar and  reached for a nice warm O positive.

“Harry,” I said, licking my lips, raising my glass.  “How’s it goin’?”

“Expect a full house.  JJ’s dancing tonight,” he said smiling.  “You know how the ladies love him.”

“The guys love him too, let’s not forget that.”

“The guys love him too,” he laughed.

“Do you need anything?” I asked.

“Just you, but you always say no.”

I leaned forward and kissed him lightly on the lips.  “I’m not good for you Harry and you know it.   Besides,” I smiled, “what would Lynn say?”

Harry sighed and started wiping the immaculate and highly polished bar.

The place looked great.  The tables were made out of coffin lids and each had a large vase of dead flowers in the center. The booth seats were pews.  Bats hung from the ceiling and large screens showed a constant stream of vampire films.  The walls were covered with beautifully framed movie posters and several authentic film artifacts. The stage was huge and the lighting perfect.  The band was amazing and the dancers delicious.  I should know, I’ve tasted almost all of them.  Death was good.

“Lily,” called Dreamer.  “I made a new drink for tonight.”

I turned toward him and looked at his incredible body, his black hair, dark eyes and long lashes. “The name?”

“Immaculate Conception,” he laughed.  “One night only, ten bucks a shot.”

“What would I do without you?” I asked.

“Be broke and living on the street,” he said, shaking his head.

He was probably right.  His dreams were what kept us going and I was grateful to him. It was time I made him a partner.  “Hey, Dreamer, do you have a minute?”

“Sure. What’s up Lil?”  he asked, walking toward me.

“I want you to be my partner.”

“What?  You mean you want my blood?”

“No, I don’t…well, sure, but that’s not what I meant.  I want you to be my legal business partner, you know, lawyers and papers to sign kind of thing.”

He picked me up and swung me around.  I put my face between his shoulder and neck and inhaled deeply.  He smelled so good.  “Is that a yes?”

“YES,” he yelled, putting me down.  “Thank you.”

“It’s long overdue.  You deserve it.”

“People,” he said, glancing away.

The doors were open and the guests started pouring in.  Humans and Vamps alike.  Everyone ready to feed their hunger, looking for something to take the edge off, something to get rid of the pain. Newbies and regulars alike, they came, like moths to a flame, for a night of fun at The Coffin.

    • Thank you so very much. It really is a lot of fun and neither one of us has the faintest idea what the other one is going to do. Keeps us on our toes…writing in the NOW so to speak. Glad you are enjoying it.
