It’s also why people do it. Freedom and antiestablishment feelings. No always, but it’s one thing to do it to a public building as a statement, but not on a person’s door who may have nothing to do with anything. But if they are entitled, that’s another reason the masses may use graffiti. When I was in Rome…OMG it’s everywhere. And it’s not street art, it’s graffiti, tagging, etc. It’s an issue with many sides.
Tell me about it. My son’s late best friend left his “MOST” tag everywhere… including a fellow’s personal fence down the street. Private property should never be touched.
True, but the political idea is that private property can only be owned by the entitled. But truthfully, I think the actual political reasons for graffiti have been forgotten by some and they just do it for no reason at all. Bansky is political and so are some other stree artists. They do fantastic work and other people break down walls and sell their work for millions of dollars. No one knows who he is. He doesn’t get a cent and the message he’s trying to get across is lost. Money, money, money.
True. I know it started for political reasons. The ones who just scribble, not so much. It’s funny, they have a Banksy expo coming to Montreal. It seems rather against what he stands for to charge (a quite large sum, I find) to see his works… Yep. Money, money, money.
People are making a fortune off his work. I don’t know if he gets anything, even from that. No idea. I think what he does is important for a lot of reasons.
To the people who steal his work and sell it. The art houses actually break down entire walls off buildings and sell them. They have huge auctions and movie stars go to the places and buy his work. It’s insane. The dealers pay the people who own the buildings and just break the art away and sell it.

What a beautiful door. Too bad the graffiti “artists” mucked it up.
I have such mixed feelings about things like this.
I do, as well. Art is one thing. These scribbles, for me…not su much

I know. And I don’t know how that all works.
Kind of changes here and there, I think.
You’re probably right.
He is truly anonymous and does the work for political reasons. I don’t think he profits from them stealing and selling his work, but who knows.
Who knows indeed?
Everything I’ve seen or read on him says he’s not getting anything.
Makes one ponder where the profit is going…

And why I decided not to shell out my cash to go see it
I have two of his posters and made a collage by cutting up a book. LOL
I love how you do that 😊
It’s huge and I like it. 🙂
Even better!
😀
😊
I hate seeing beautiful architectural details defaced. Boo, hiss!
There’s a lot of that going around, especially in Italy (Rome).
More’s the pity.
Times are changing and there are a lot of arrows pointing to that fact.
fascinating!
Agree. It shows a world that was and a world that is.
Yeah!
The world will be graffitied over. We are paving it, so why not.
