With Bunny Day approaching, the chicklets have been rereading the Velveteen Rabbit, or VR, as it has come to be known. It is definitely going to be part of the celebration. Everyone LOVES the book, especially the bunnies. They have decided to read excerpts from the VR aloud. They thought the ‘reading’ could take the place of the Poetry Slam, but many of the residents had already composed their poems, so they will have both, the VR reading and the Poetry Slam.
Simmy, one of the new bunnies, wrote this poem and handed it in to the committee, so that the Poetry Slam would not be dropped from the program.
LITTLE BUNNY
By Simmy Cottentail
little
bunny
oh
so
sweet
with
stitched
up
paws
and
broken
feet
your
fur
is
ratty
worn
and
thin
people
wonder
where
you’ve
been
I
tell
them
true
right
from
the
start
the
bunny
lives
within
my
heart

Thank you so much:)

Thank you so much:)
Lovely art
Thank you Gretchen. Love bunnies.
Simmy is a great poet. We love the VR here, too.
Thank you. Simmy is going to publish a book of poems in time for Chickmas. The chicklets have their own press, so it won’t be a problem. Who doesn’t love the VR? It’s so beautiful and sweet but it’s sad as well.
Just like real life.
Just like real life. So true.
So beautiful Gigi
Thank you so very much…glad you like it:)
Love it – left me feeling warm 🙂
Oh, I’m so happy to know that. Thank you very much:) The Velveteen Rabbit broke my heart even though it was beautiful. No one ever forgets their favorite toys. Not really.
No – I can’t recall a a favorite toy, though 😦
😦 I’m truly sorry about that but it’s probably not unusual, especially for boys.
I had two small stuffed dogs. One was white with black spots and the other one was black. I slept with them every night because we lived on the first floor and my large bedroom window was open in the summer. (Chicago…gangways between buildings, big windows in apartments) I was terrified but we didn’t have air-conditioning, so I convinced myself that if a monster came through my window my dogs would come alive and protect me. Once I had that down I never had a problem. I believed it so much that I still think it they actually may have come to life. I also loved my blue bike.
somebunny is a clever poet 🙂
Happy you enjoyed it:) Bunnies make wonderful poets.
