The Pencil Nebula Supernova Shock Wave

  1. I guess there must be a whole department in NASA that allocates all these names and you can imagine the conversations: “OK, so somebody just found another freakin’ nebula, so what the hell are we gonna call this one for crying out loud? Anybody got any ideas?” I’m not seeing any pencil in that one so I guess they must be struggling for names by now. Fascinating shot though and there must be thousands of stars / galaxies in just that small speck of the universe.

    • Hahahahahahaha you are SO right. And definitely, I can’t even imagine the number of stars and galaxies in that spot. I just found out about “white holes,” which are the opposite of black holes, and spew out material. They think perhaps that’s how the universe began. I never heard about them before. Eventually, they turn into black holes, so it’s weird, but then what isn’t weird in space. But yes, pencil is a real stretch for sure.
