Art and the philosophy of life

We, in the Chicago area, are supposed to get 11, yes, ELEVEN more inches of snow, starting this afternoon around four.  That’s on top of the snow already on the ground.  And more is coming.

What fun.  Not!

A friend of mine called and said they are warning people that if they go out tonight to be sure and have food, water, blankets and a flashlight in their car.  It’s never a good thing to hear that.

Apparently Mother Nature has been playing with us, leading us to believe that this was going to be one of the best winters ever.  She started out with a fall ice storm and then calmed down and things have been blissful.  Now, however, she’s decided that she’s been nice long enough, and all bets are off.  Sigh.

It seems ridiculous that we can’t steer the planet. I mean then we could just turn it toward the SUN, once in awhile.  It only seems fair.  But no. The planet pretty much does whatever it feels like doing, and we’re just along for the ride.  I mean it’s not as if we can go anywhere else, right?  I still can’t believe we all live on a rock flying through space and all we do is kill everything.  How crazy are we?  Never mind, it was a rhetorical question.

Is it spring yet?

  1. I’m so jealous! I’m downstate from you in Southern Illinois. We got an inch or so the other day, and it’s already gone. I love snow, and I want more!

  2. We are due for a big Michigan snow too

  3. Wow, that is a lot of snow. At least you don’t have to be out in it at all.

  4. As much as I usually hate snow, I wish we had some. Can’t go anyplace anyway so it might mean the snow would stay white long enough to go out and make a snowball. Can’t make snow cream now because of the toxic additives to snow, but while we had some flurries yesterday, they barely covered the rooftops. And my daughter, living a couple hours away, had four inches. Not fair! I know the state of Kentucky shuts down when we get a hint of snow, but everyone should stay at home for a few days again and maybe get a handle on the spread of COVID. I WANT SOME SNOW. Just not as much as you have. Five inches would make me happy. No ice, just snow, SNOW, SNOW!

    • Ah, if only we could special order it like that. Maybe have a Snow Menu. No ice, just four inches that would melt in the sun the next day. I’d vote for that. We already had seven inches on the ground, although it has melted down to about four now so that’s way too much. Homeless people, animals, not good for anyone, except plows who make money doing driveways. and streets.

      • Try spending a winter in the country if you think the plows do any good. If we couldn’t plow our own roads we could be stuck for months. But I do wish Camelot was real and we could have the snow on schedule, with it melting off the roads but leaving some pristine snow in the yards and the hillsides so we could go sledding. I feel so bad about the homeless who are hurting so much, and the animals that have been abandoned by irresponsible owners who seem to think they can drop them off somewhere and someone will take them in. As for the ice, no way should we ever have that except on the ponds where the kids can skate. Too bad it’s only an impossible dream!

      • I’m with you. Camelot snow sounds perfect. I can’t imagine having to dig myself out, as people in the country do. And our forecast looks grim, as far as more snow goes, but at least the snow saved itself until now. Winter, to this point has been pretty great. 🙂

      • We just have rain and ice most of the time. I remember snow when I was a kid but not much lately. How much did you end up with? A few rooftops were white here but it was so cold it was impossible to leave the building

      • It was above my knees. The ice on the roof is bad and it’s about ready to rip the gutters and eaves off. We are getting more tomorrow night but only about an inch or so. I have a path for the cat. I shoveled it five times yesterday, to keep it open for her.

      • We’ve been under winter storm watch for weeks now but so far no snow. Lots of ice and sleet along with freezing rain, but middle of Feb. now and only a light dusting of snow. Personally I prefer the snow to the ice.

      • I think there’s two feet of snow on my patio…and it’s still snowing. The ice is underneath all of it. Definitely ready for winter to maven.

      • I’ve been ready for spring since the last day of autumn!

      • I so get that. If only we could make it happen.

      • Seems as if there should be something we can do, but sadly, the weather is way beyond our control.

      • And yet some people are trying to control even that!
