The Conversation…

Maine Coon Cat, Cat, Eyes, Nose, View

“Hi Pinky Toes.  Where’s Cat?”

“He’s helping Tabby with her kittens.”

“What’s wrong with them?”

“Nothing.  She’s just tired from trying to keep them all in one place.  They’re getting older and more inquisitive, so they’re always wandering off.”

“That’s nice of him to help out.”

“He’s good that way.”

“I brought tuna.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re beautiful.  Main Coon.”

“What’s that?”

“It’s the kind of cat you are.  It’a a breed.”

“What’s a breed?”

“A breed is a group of cats that have the same attributes.  You look kind of alike, have the same kind of personalities and are the same in a lot of ways.  There are a lot of different breeds.”

“Like different people.”

“Exactly.  Our differences are called nationalities.”

“Cat likes you.”

“I like him too.”

“He knows that.”

“I like you too.  I love cats.”

“That’s nice.  A lot of humans are very nice to us.”

“A lot of humans aren’t very nice, period.”

“I’ve noticed.”

“Are you happy, Pinky Toes?”

“What does that mean?”

“Do you have everything you want and do you feel good?”

“I have friends and I can usually find a safe place to sleep, so I guess I’m happy.”

“Can I pet you?”

“Sure.  I’d like that.”

“You’re so soft and lovely.”

“Thank you.  I can see why Cat likes you.”

“You’re very sweet.  You can come over and stay with me whenever you like.”

“I can?”

“Sure. Cat has a home, but I have enough room for one more.”

“I’d like that, as long as I could go out now and then.”

“Sure.  Do you know where I live?”

“Yes, I followed you last time you were here.”

“Come up the back stairs and I’ll leave the kitchen window open a little, so you can get in.”

“Thank you.”

“My pleasure.  The other cats will be happy to see you.  You might even know some of them.”

“Maybe.”

“Who is The Magician?”

“Oh, he’s famous among cats.  He’s magic and can do anything.  He’s very quick and clever and cats go to him for help and just to listen to him tell stories.  He lives behind an art gallery because he’s very creative and likes to watch them unload paintings and things.”

“I see.  What does he look like?”

“He’s all white.”

“Nice.”

“Yes, he is.”

She snickered.  “Well, thank you for letting me pet you.  Please come over later tonight, or whenever you feel like it.  Cat can come too if he would like to join you.”

“Cat has a name, you know.”

“Yes, he told me, but I like to call him Cat.”

“I’ll see you later,” he said.

“Bye, Pinky Toes.”

“Bye.  I’ll tell him you stopped by and thank you for the tuna.”

How very funny. I’ve never heard this name before and now TWICE in one afternoon. The people living above us have 2 Main Coons, they’re huge and only 7 mo old…. They keep them inside and it’s their second lot of two cats to be kept inside and on a huge balcony….. Lovely story too!
