The little goat…a short conversation and poem.

Kid, Goat, Domestic Goat, Young Animal, Croissant, Pet

“I want to know why Mary didn’t have a little goat follow her to school, instead of a little lamb, in that Nursery Rhyme?”

“I’m not sure,” I said.  “I thought little goats were called kids.”

“It doesn’t matter what we’re called.  Not really.  Little goats are very nice too, you know.”

“I do know that.   I think a little goat would have worked just fine.”

“Well, then, would you please write a new poem, using a little goat?”

“I’ll do my best.”

Mary had a little goat
who ate everything in sight
he followed Mary everywhere
all day into the night
he leapt and twirled
and danced along
he jumped
into the air
to see them walking
down the street
caused everyone stare
Mary was quite happy
the goat was happy too
cuz lambs are not the only ones
who followed her to school

“What do you think?” I asked.

“I like it.  Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.  Do you know anyone named Mary?”

“Not yet,” said the little goat.  “Will other people see the poem?”

“Only if they read my post.”

“Maybe those who read it, will understand that little goats can be in poems too.”

“I think they already know that.   But, for those who don’t, they might realize that little goats would have worked just as well.”

“That’s all I’m asking for.”

“I think they’ll get it.”

96 Goats (to the tune of 96 Tears)

    Too many goats
For one heart to be loving.
Too many goats to carry in my arms.

    They’re eating
    And they’re prancing
    Dancing all around me.

    Baa ah ah ah
    Baa ah ah ah

But when the sun comes up
    They’ll be hungry again
    I need more oats
    For my goats.

They’ll just Baa, baa, baa, baa
    96 Goats.

I love this post, you are a witty writer and eloquent poet. What inspired you to write about goats? By the way, the pic of the goat is darling 🐐
