Okay, so…

I just got an email from an old friend/sorority sister.  In it was a this:

“Life doesn’t come wrapped with a bow but it’s still a gift.”

How do we know that life is a gift and not a punishment?  What if this is hell, or prison, or just a party that went really wrong?  We don’t have the faintest idea what life is.  We don’t know ANYTHING AT ALL.  I think saying silly things like this is supposed to make some people feel better about being here.  People are desperate to find a reason to be okay with the way things are.  Desperate to make up any reason that makes them feel better about living. Those of us who are privileged might fall for this stuff but the world isn’t just filled with people who have enough to eat and have a roof over their head.

Maybe my friend thinks life is a gag gift or a gift from someone who doesn’t like us.  Or maybe life is just to give the people who made up the game a good laugh.  I bet they are saying, “Can you believe how gullible that species is?  They think they have it good.  They don’t even realize they’re in a cage and it’s filled with guns and blood and the only way out is death.  They just go on their delusional way, pretending everything is a gift.”

Maybe that’s why we’re here.  We might be so dumb that we don’t deserve more than this. If we were intelligent we’d stop writing stupid sayings and try and find out what’s going on. Accepting our lot in life is the result of brainwashing/conditioning and manipulation. Why else would we let the 1% and those in power rob us and destroy the planet?  We don’t have to take the violence and destruction.  We could actually make the world into a garden, where happy people lived but that would take working together, cooperation, getting rid of the white, male, power structure, destroying the status quo and that’s a lot of work and might even be impossible, so we send insane sayings to our friends instead.  I don’t know what to say to her.  There’s a whole list of things in the email. I guess I just won’t write back.
