Art and the philosophy of life

by tenderheartmusings,  There was a photograph of an old man’s hand, holding a cane, covered by the hand of a child.  The whole thing was lovely.  But something she said, got me thinking.  She talked about the phases of the moon, waxing and waining.  And it made me realize that the moon never changes at all.  The moon is always whole and the same…it’s the things that go on around the moon that makes us think that it is different.  The moon is always the same orb…oh sure, it might get hit by things and some scientists think it could be hollow, but it’s always just, THE MOON.  The moon doesn’t wax or wane, it is always the same.  Rituals are done, crops are planted, according to the waxing and waining of the moon but it really has to do about weather cycles and the time of the year. The moon is still the same circle, give or take a few inches.

I think we do this with so many things.  We think that what we see is real but it’s not.  The clouds cover the sun and we say, “well there was no sun today,” but the sun was there, it just couldn’t get through the cloud cover.  We don’t see what’s real, we see what is in front of what is real.  We are like young children playing hide and go seek.  If you hide the toy behind your back the tiny tot thinks  that the toy is gone, that it actually disappeared.  We are grown up and doing the same thing.  I think we need to start looking behind things more often because what we see isn’t always real and what we believe to be real is just a trick of the eye done with mirrors and shadows.

Check out her blog.  I’m so grateful to her for “WAKING ME UP.”

  2. You’re right! I never thought of it that way. Now I will think about it every time I see the moon.
